Joondalup Boorungur an exhibition by Sharyn Egan / 3rd – 27th July / Photo gallery / As part of the 2018 NAIDOC week celebrations, Sharyn Egan was commissioned to present Joondalup Boorungur, an exhibition conceived in response to the City’s art collection. Two of the City’s works, by Lindsay Harris and Sally Morgan, with others by Tjyllyungoo Lance Chadd, Richard Walley and Sharyn herself, are presented to share Noongar perspectives on the totemic relationships in our region.

Black and White Exhibition – 9-26 Oct 2018 / 3 events: 1- Callout to all artists: Both JCAA members and non-members are encouraged to exhibit artworks at this exhibition – registrations close on 18 Sep. The theme for the exhibition is black and white, tones of grey and silver! The Noongar Shakespeare Project – 11 Jul 2018

Yirra Yaakin will continue to translate Shakespeare’s Sonnets into the Noongar language and provide an innovative new learning platform for the understanding and appreciation of Noongar language, Shakespeare’s sonnets and culture. This project includes the creative development undertaken by the company, in partnership with Bell Shakespeare, in the translation and adaptation of Macbeth into the Noongar language. In 2018 the chosen sonnets will focus on women.

Artbank Roadshow – May 2019 – Calling Unrepresented Artists

The City of Joondalup is proud to announce that it has been selected by national arts organisation Artbank to be their Western Australian co-presenting partner for the Artbank Roadshow. Artbank is a Federal government initiative that supports Australian contemporary visual artists by collecting their work and loaning it to individuals, companies and governments, including diplomatic locations in seventy countries. The Artbank Roadshow team will visit the Joondalup Art Gallery in May 2019 to meet unrepresented artists and consider their work for acquisition.

Community Invitation Art Award 2018 Callout

The City of Joondalup‘s Community Invitation Art Award (CIAA) will take place Sunday 14 October 2018 to Sunday 28 October 2018 at Lakeside Joondalup Shopping City. This exhibition will feature the work of fifteen selected artists who each create three individual pieces for exhibition. The winning artist receives $7,000 in prize money, and the artwork is acquired by the City of Joondalup for its Art Collection. Professional Western Australian artists are encouraged to apply via the Expression of Interest, available from 15 March 2018.
Call for Expression of Interest: Open from Thursday 15 March to Sunday 15 April 2018, 5.00pm.
Who can enter? Artists must be residents of the City of Joondalup or members of the Joondalup Community Arts Association.

Congratulations to Julia Andrijasevich winner of the JCAA Art Award for 2018. We invite you to view the photos below of our winner and her beautiful sculptures. We have also included photos of other finalists and their works and of the opening night which included an introduction by Carl Altmann. The competition and exhibition was held during the first 2 weeks of February 2018. The overall winner was selected by three external judges and takes home a $500 prize.
