CoJ Exhibition: New Acquisitions – 22 Jan to 1 Feb 2019: Each year, the City of Joondalup collects exemplars of Western Australian contemporary art through its visual arts program including the staging of the City of Joondalup Community Invitation Art Award as well as directly commissioning artists to produce works in response to their experiences in the City’s environments. New Acquisitions presents five artworks acquired for the City of Joondalup Art Collection in 2018, including Susan Roux’s Wives, which won the acquisitive prize and the People’s Choice Award in the CIAA, and Place of Glistening, a three-panel artwork commissioned from Nien Schwarz that was inspired by the City’s physical geography.

JCAA Members Art Awards Exhibition: The Joondalup Community Arts Association is holding its annual Members Art Awards exhibition from 5 to 15 February. This stems from last year’s JCAA Selection Exhibition held in August where five winners were selected in the following categories: * Painting – Renata Wright * Sculpture – Sheila Ayling * Mixed media – Colin Drummond * Technical Excellence – Jane Armstrong * Photo and digital media – Dita Hagedorn / These five artists will now present three new artworks as well as the pieces exhibited in the Selection Exhibition. An overall winner of $500 will be selected by three external judges.

Joondalup Boorungur an exhibition by Sharyn Egan / 3rd – 27th July / Photo gallery / As part of the 2018 NAIDOC week celebrations, Sharyn Egan was commissioned to present Joondalup Boorungur, an exhibition conceived in response to the City’s art collection. Two of the City’s works, by Lindsay Harris and Sally Morgan, with others by Tjyllyungoo Lance Chadd, Richard Walley and Sharyn herself, are presented to share Noongar perspectives on the totemic relationships in our region.
