The City of Joondalup‘s Twilight Lantern Parade will be held on Saturday 1st April, and this year the parade is taking its inspiration from the sky, with the theme “head in the clouds”. Community groups have been invited to take inspiration from the funny shapes clouds make to create a unique lantern.
Last year, JAG took out the top prize for the event with an outstanding entry from Pauline Sookloll and several of the gallery members. (Photos taken last year) This year, the City of Joondalup has accepted the gallery’s proposal to create a large cloud shaped lantern made purely from styrofoam cups and hot glue. The design draws strong inspiration from American sculptural artist Tara Donovan whose work focuses on the transformation of everyday objects into intriguing works of art.
We are looking for enthusiastic gallery members who would like to be a part of this year’s entry into the parade. No artistic experience is required, and instructions will be provided, so this truly is open to everyone and we would love all hands on deck with this project. Do you have an hour or two you could spare in the next six weeks? Or would you like to be more involved and perhaps even participate in walking the lantern in the parade itself? We would love any and all help that we can get! Please email your interest to firstname.lastname@example.org
